BUFFALO, N.Y. - The Daemen University women's lacrosse team picked up their first win of the 2025 season with a dominant 15-2 victory over Lake Erie College in intercollegiate women's lacrosse action Friday night at Coyer Field on the campus of Buffalo State. The victory also marked the first career win for head coach
Emily Bitka as well.
With the win, the Wildcats improved to 1-1 while the Storm dropped to 0-3.
Senior midfielder
Camryn Day (Hamburg, N.Y.) paced the Daemen offense with four goals and two assists for six total points. Also helping the Daemen attack was sophomore attacker
Shannen Calandra (Rome, N.Y.) who matched Day's six points with a season-high four assists and two goals. Senior midfielder
Katelynn Deveans (Buffalo, N.Y.) tallied two goals for three total points along with a team-high two ground balls. Additionally, junior midfielder
Ella Bouley (Auburn, N.Y.) and freshman attacker
Adison Pollutro (West Seneca, N.Y.) added two points each with a goal and an assist. In net, freshman
Molly Evans (Fulton, N.Y.) made eight saves to earn her first collegiate win.
Brooke McNeal scored both goals for Lake Erie in the loss. Shannon Smith nabbed a game-high three ground balls while Avery Artino made nine saves in the loss.
Daemen opened the contest on fire as they limited the Storm to just one shot in the first quarter while scoring four goals of their own to command a 4-0 lead after 15 minutes. The Wildcats continued to roll in the second frame as they lobbed on five more goals, with three coming in the final three minutes and freshman
Marianna Szamoskozi (Port Coquitlam, B.C.) scoring her first collegiate goal during that span, to enter halftime ahead 9-0.
Out of the break, Day scored the first goal of the new stanza to complete her hat trick and send Daemen ahead, 10-0. Lake Erie got a goal back off the stick of McNeal to make it 10-1, but Daemen scored twice before the half ended, with Pollutro notching her first goal of her collegiate career, to enter the fourth quarter with a 12-1 lead.
Daemen added three more goals before the final horn to secure their 15-2 win.
GAME NOTES
• Daemen outshot Lake Erie, 33-13, and held a 12-7 edge in draw controls.
• Day scored four-or-more goals in a game for the first time since April 15, 2023, at St. Thomas Aquinas.
• Daemen went a perfect 15-for-15 in clears. It was the first instance since April 1, 2024, at Malone that Daemen did not fail a clearing attempt.
• The 'Cats are now 2-0 all-time against Lake Erie.
• Szamoskozi and fellow freshman
Gabby Bocketti (Kenmore, N.Y.) each made their collegiate debut.
