PITTSFORD, N.Y. -- The Daemen University men's tennis team won their second straight match of the spring in a 6-1 road victory over Division III opponent St. John Fisher University on Saturday afternoon at the Mendon Racquet Club. The Wildcats improve to 2-4 in the spring competition season and 4-9 overall.
With only five players dressed out for Daemen today, the Wildcats won all matches that they appeared in, earning the doubles point after winning No. 1 and No. 2 doubles. Junior
Rohan Chitanand (Den Haag, Netherlands) and sophomore
Lucas Garcia (Bogota, Columbia) played in top doubles for the first time this season and took down the top Cardinals pair of Sean Brown and Will Chubb in a 6-1 decision. At second doubles, junior
Alex Lumanog (Albuquerque, N.M.) and senior
Jayven Williamson (Minneapolis, Minn.) paired up for the first time this season and won No. 2 doubles in a 6-0 decision. Without a sixth player today, the Wildcats forfeited No. 3 doubles but had already won the first point of the match.
Daemen continued the domination and won all five singles matches that they played in. Playing at top singles for the first time in his career, Garcia came out with the 6-4, 6-2 win. Lumanog easily handled Brown (6-2, 6-0) at No. 2 doubles and Chitanand rolled to a 6-0, 6-1 victory at third singles. Williamson won his second straight singles match with a 6-2, 6-0 victory at No. 4 singles, and after coming off his first collegiate win, Henderson battled in a tiebreak to win 6-7 (4), 6-4, 10-7 at fifth singles to make it a perfect five for five for the Cats.
