Men's Tennis Falls to STAC in Weekend ECC Matches

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 WILLIAMSVILLE, N.Y. – The Daemen University men's tennis team dropped both East Coast Conference matches this weekend against St. Thomas Aquinas, first falling 0-7 to the Spartans in their ECC opener on Saturday evening before a 0-7 loss in the weekend finale on Sunday.

With the losses, the Wildcats snap a two-match win streak and fall to 2-6 in the spring and 4-11 overall.

MATCH #1 (SATURDAY), 0-7 STAC
The Wildcats dropped all seven matches to the Spartans in their ECC opener on Saturday. STAC picked up all three doubles victories to win the first point of the match, and earned all six singles points as well. Back in the lineup at top singles for the Wildcats was senior Juan Alvarez (Puebla, Mexico), who put up a fight against the Spartans' top player in Seth Newman before falling, 6-4, 6-2. After being named the ECC Player of the Week for the first time in his career, both sophomore Lucas Garcia (Bogota, Columbia) and junior Rohan Chitanand (Den Haag, Netherlands) both played their singles matches to 6-3, 6-3 results, with Garcia at No. 3 and Chitanand at No. 4 singles. 

DOUBLES RESULTS
#1 – Seth Newman & Henry Ronnberg (STAC) def. Juan Alvarez & Alex Lumanog (DAE), 6-1
#2 – Don Vinz Lominoque & Nagamitsu Kuroda (STAC) def. Lucas Garcia & Rohan Chitanand (DAE), 6-2
#3 – Ondrej Sramek & Erik Victor Tauson (STAC) def. Jayven Williamson & Vondin Henderson (DAE), 6-0

SINGLES RESULTS
#1 – Newman def. Alvarez, 6-4, 6-2
#2 – Lorenzo Meschini def. Lumanog, 6-0, 1-0 (win/forfeit)
#3 – Lominoque def. Garcia, 6-3, 6-3
#4 – Kuroda def. Chitanand, 6-3, 6-3
#5 – Tauson def. Williamson, 6-1, 6-3
#6 – Sramek def. Henderson, 6-1, 6-0

MATCH #2 (SUNDAY), 0-7 STAC
The Spartans topped Daemen, 7-0, in Sunday's match after winning all three doubles pairings and taking the five singles matches that Daemen played in as well as No. 6 singles which was a win by forfeit for STAC. Garcia played at second singles today and forced Lominoque to win by two in the first set, 7-5, before falling 6-2 in the second set. Chitanand played Tauson well in No. 3 singles, but the STAC freshman was able to pull out the 6-2, 6-2 win over the Daemen junior.

#2 -- Sramek & Tauson (STAC) def. Garcia & Chitanand (DAE), 6-2
#3 --  Nathan Yacar & Alberto Espinosa Navarro (STAC) def. Williamson & Henderson (DAE), 6-0

#1 -- Meschini def. Alvarez, 6-2, 6-1
#2 -- Lominoque def. Garcia, 7-5, 6-2
#3 -- Tauson def. Chitanand, 6-2, 6-2
#4 -- Sramek def. Williamson, 6-0, 6-0
#5 -- Ronnberg def. Henderson, 6-0, 6-0
#6 -- Yacar win/forfeit
