BUFFALO, N.Y. – In their first home game in three weeks, the Daemen University women's lacrosse team suffered a 15-1 setback against Molloy in East Coast Conference women's lacrosse action Saturday afternoon at Coyer Field.
With the win, the Lions, who won their fifth consecutive game, improved to 6-8 and 3-1 in ECC play while the Wildcats dropped to 4-8 and 2-2 in conference play.
Sofia Quitoni led Molloy with four goals while Alexa Amorison notched a team-high five points off three goals and two assists. On defense, Carly Howell grabbed nine ground balls and seven caused turnovers. In net, Nicole Schaumloffel made six saves in the winning effort.
Senior midfielder
Cameron Briggs (Buffalo, N.Y.) scored the lone goal for Daemen and also collected three draw controls. Sophomore midfielder
Mikayla Myer (Geneva, N.Y.) and senior defender
Gabi Accurso (Buffalo, N.Y.) each caused a team-high two turnovers while in net, freshman
Molly Evans (Fulton, N.Y.) made a season-high 11 saves.
Molloy controlled the first half as they outshot Daemen, 25-5 and entered the locker room with a 11-0 lead.
Out of halftime, the Lions continued to pressure the Wildcats and tallied three more goals ahead of the fourth quarter. Daemen stymied Molloy's shutout bid as Briggs converted a free-position shot with 1:16 left in the contest for the final goal of the afternoon.
Molloy ended the day with a 37-9 advantage in shots and 21-12 lead in ground balls. Both sides ended the afternoon tied in draw controls with 10 each.
GAME NOTES
• Today marked the third meeting between Daemen and Molloy.
• Briggs has scored at least one goal in four of her last five games.
• Evans recorded 10-or-more saves for the first time since March 10 against Ashland when she had 10 stops.
