Men's Soccer Upended By Saint Anselm

AMHERST, N.Y. — St. Anselm (2-0-2) defeated Daemen (1-3) with a decisive 5-0 victory on Friday at Royal Park. 

The visitors took an early lead in the 14th minute through an own goal.

Jason Xintaropoulos extended the Hawks' lead with two back-to-back goals in the 43rd and 44th minutes. Daemen goalkeeper Dylan Delaney (Lockport, N.Y.) made several key saves, but the home team ended the half trailing 3-0.

Selim Ozleplebici (Thousand Oaks, Calif.) had the Wildcats' first chance in the 10th minute, when he fired a shot that was saved. Jonathan Lopez-Leblanc (Centennial, Colo.) put a shot wide in the 28th minute, and Keegan Herrmann (Wilson, N.Y.) had an attempt saved a minute later. 

The second half began with St. Anselm maintaining offensive pressure, as Jake McCabe's shots in the 48th and 63rd minutes were both saved by Delaney. 

Despite Daemen's defense, Chance Prouty broke through with a goal in the 76th minute, assisted by Brian Jones, extending the visitors' lead to 4-0. Prouty added another goal in the 82nd minute, assisted by Luke Delia, making it 5-0.

The Wildcats' attempts to respond included a shot by Thomas Wikan (Inderøy, Norway) in the 78th minute. Herrmann and Wikan also fired shots wide late in the contest. 

Delaney recorded nine saves over 79 minutes in net for the Wildcats. Cristopher Vasquez (Sunnyside, N.Y.) contributed with two saves during his 10 minutes of play. 

Daemen is back home Sunday, hosting Goldey-Beacom at 11 a.m.
