AMHERST, N.Y. --
Keira Mullen (Farmingdale, N.J.) of the Daemen University women's volleyball team was named the East Coast Conference Rookie of the Week for the second consecutive week, the league announced on Monday afternoon.
Mullen led the Wildcats offensively with 24 kills (3.43 kills/set) while hitting .396 in Daemen's 1-1 weekend. In Saturday's loss to Molloy, the freshman outside hitter finished with 13 kills on 30 attacks while hitting at a .267 clip and added three total blocks -- one solo -- and three digs. Mullen was a key part of Daemen's offensive prowess in the Wildcats' 3-0 sweep over Queens on Sunday morning, leading the Cats with a team-high .526 hitting percentage after tallying 11 kills with just one error on 19 attacks in Daemen's first ECC win of the season. She also added two digs to her stat line in the win over the Knights.
On the year, Mullen ranks second on the team with 143 total kills, averaging 2.98 kills per set (good for fifth in the ECC) while hitting .199. She has accumulated nine service aces, 25 total blocks and 37 digs as well this season. Her 3.4 kills per set ranks seventh in the league.
The Wildcats welcome crosstown rival D'Youville to Lumsden Gymnasium on Wednesday for a 6 PM match this week. Former Daemen head coach Eli Irizarry returns to Main Street this weekend as the new head coach of the AIC Yellowjackets. Daemen and AIC will face off on Saturday at 4 PM.
