AMHERST, N.Y. — Assumption University edged Daemen University 1-0 on Friday evening in the first game at Daemen's new Royal Park. The Greyhounds' lone goal came in the first half, providing the margin needed for victory.
Rachael Geniuch broke through for Assumption in the 18th minute on a strike from outside the box, assisted by Haley Brown, putting the visitors up 1-0.
In the first half, Assumption's offense pressured early with several attempts, including a shot by Elizabeth Schoeneberger in the 1st minute that was saved by goalkeeper,

The Wildcats also generated multiple opportunities early. Freshman
Casey Keller (Rochester, N.Y.) put Daemen's first shot of the season on frame in the 11th minute, but it got stopped by the goalie. Fellow freshman
Mia Wright (Liverpool, N.Y.) and
Kylie Miranto (North Tonawanda, N.Y.) each tested Assumption's goalkeeper, although neither found the back of the net. Daemen also had two corners in the first that it could not convert.
The second half was marked by the visitors' aggressive offensive push, as Assumption fired multiple shots early on. Schultz made several key saves, including one in the 45th minute aimed at the top right corner.
Miranto recorded five shots in the second half, although she could not find the back of the net, with a notable save by the Greyhounds' keeper in the 73rd minute. Miranto also had a chance to equalize in the 88th minute, but her attempt once again got stopped.
Schultz made an impact in goal with 13 saves in the match. Miranto led the offensive efforts, finishing with nine shots, including three on goal.
Mari Amaya (Miami, Fla.) recorded two shots, contributing to the team's offensive efforts, and
Kaitlin Mettler (Royalton, N.Y.) also added two shots.
The Wildcats remain home Sunday, hosting American International for an 11 a.m. contest.
