CHARLESTON, W.V. – The Daemen University men's volleyball team was back in action at the University of Charleston (W.V.) Invitational this afternoon, facing off against the University of Mount Olive out of North Carolina. The Wildcats fell 3-0 (18-25, 14-15, 23-25) in the opening match of the invitational.
Daemen drops to 0-3 on the season, while Mount Olive moves to 2-0.
IMPACT PLAYERS
- Redshirt-sophomore Patrick Mullen (Farmingdale, N.J) led Daemen in kills for a third straight match, recording nine, while tallying seven digs.
- Fifth-year Maverick O'Neill (East Amherst, N.Y.) registered six digs and finished with a team- high .444 hitting percentage, and redshirt-senior Billy Wieberg (Grand Island, N.Y.) added eight kills of his own.
- Junior Jariel Giraud (Orlando, Fla.) led the team in assists with 19 while tallying three block assists.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
- Daemen opened up the first set with a 3-2 lead, but a 12-3 run by Mount Olive allowed them to take a 14-6 lead and control the set after that to win it 25-18.
- Set two saw most of the same, with Mount Olive coming out of the gate with an 8-2 lead. The Wildcats attempted to claw back into it as they cut the lead to six to trail 15-9, but it was not enough as Mount Olive claimed the set 25-14 to go up 2-0 in the match.
- Daemen and Mount Olive in set three traded points for most of the set, with neither team gaining more than a point or two for the lead. With both teams tied at 23, Mount Olive took advantage of back-to-back attack errors to win 25-23 and take the match.
- Mount Olive as a team hit .273 with only 14 attack errors out of 77 total attacks.
