AMHERST, N.Y. – The Daemen University men's volleyball team picked up its first win of the 2026 season, knocking off rival Roberts Wesleyan University 3-1 (26-24, 22-25, 25-20, 25-22) in non-conference action at Lumsden Gymnasium this evening. Redshirt sophomore
Patrick Mullen (Farmingdale, N.J.) recorded the first double-double of his career to lead the way.
Daemen, the two-time defending champions of the Northeast Conference, improve to 1-5 with the win. The visiting Redhawks, members of the East Coast Conference, fall to 4-3 overall.
IMPACT PLAYERS
- Mullen racked up career-highs in kills (17) and digs (13) while accounting for a team-high 18.5 points. He attacked at a .286 clip and added three blocks.
- Redshirt senior Billy Wieberg (Grand Island, N.Y.) posted a season-high 11 kills and added three service aces.
- Redshirt junior Johnaustin Bly (Lancaster, N.Y.) chipped in seven kills (season-high), four digs and two aces, while fifth-year senior Maverick O'Neill (East Amherst, N.Y.) and redshirt sophomore Peter Leicht (Brockport, N.Y.) combined for 10 kills and eight blocks out of the middle.
- Junior setter Jariel Giraud (Orlando, Fla.) ran the show and finished with 38 assists to go with seven digs - both season-highs.
- Ryan DeJohn paced the Redhawks with 15 kills and .289 hitting percentage, while Landon Brouwer tallied 37 assists.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
- Daemen totaled 46 kills on a .212 hitting percentage, and doubled up the Redhawks with an 8-4 advantage from the service line.
GAME NOTES
- Mullen was named a Northeast Conference Prime Performer for the third time in as many weeks earlier today. Through six matches, he leads Daemen with 75 kills and is averaging 3.57 kills per set.
- Daemen is now 41-5 at home since the start of the 2021 season.
- Daemen was picked as the co-favorites in the NEC this season.
