Men's Soccer Falls Short on Senior Day

AMHERST, N.Y. — Daemen was defeated by Queens 2-1 on Senior Day Saturday at Royal Park.

Daemen logged nine shots, putting two on target. The Wildcats' goalkeeper, Cristopher Vasquez (Sunnyside, N.Y.), made eight saves.


The Wildcats celebrated their 10 seniors before the game. Nolan Smith (Ridgeway, Ontario), Stefan Jankovic (Reykjavík, Iceland), Jordan Nobe (Honolulu, Hawaii), Fabrizzio Jaramillo (Lynwood, Calif.), Amin Garcia (Leganes, Spain), Yves Sisse (Phoenix, Ariz.), Tim Florek (Marburg, Germany), Karim Salome (Logan, Utah), Colin Hockridge (Scarborough, Ontario), and Ashley Njao (Nairobi, Kenya) were all recognized.

HIGHLIGHTS
  • The Knights struck first in the 13th minute to take a 1-0 lead.
  • Daemen then tied it up in the 24th minute with a goal from Afonso Abreu (Leiria, Portugal). Salome passed to Afonso from a set piece, and the junior fired a shot into the top-left corner.
  • Queens retook the lead at 2-1 in the 40th minute.
  • Sisse had the first shot at 0:22, but it was blocked.
  • Abreu had an attempt saved in the eighth minute.
  • The Wildcats had a corner kick in the 16th minute, but they couldn't capitalize.
  • In the second, Abreu put a shot wide in the 53rd minute, and Florek put one off target three minutes later.
  • Florek also put a shot off frame in the 56th minute.
  • Sincere Noble (Baltimore, Md.) had two shots go wide in the 73rd and 76th minutes.
  • Vasquez kept the Wildcats in the match during a scoreless second half, making multiple saves and stopping Jason Udo's penalty kick at 72:49
  • Abreu had one final chance in the 83rd minute, but his shot went over the crossbar.
GAME NOTES
  • Abreu scored and led the Wildcats with four shots, including two on goal.
  • Salome recorded an assist.
  • Vasquez made eight saves in 90 minutes.
  • The Wildcats recorded nine shots, firing two on target.
  • Daemen had one corner, coming in the first half.
