INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
- In a first set that only saw seven total kills for the Wildcats, Daemen and STAC traded points back and forth throughout the match. Tied at 20 late in the set, the Spartans took a 22-20 lead after a Daemen attack error and Spartan ace, but from there the Cats scored five of the last six points off three STAC errors, a Wieberg kill and a Giraud ace to win the set, 25-23. Mullen led the Cats with four kills while Wieberg contributed three.
- STAC compounded on their hot first set by taking a 13-9 lead early and maintained a good lead, taking as much as a seven-point advantage over the Wildcats in the second. The Spartans went on to take the second set, 25-18, after out-hitting the Cats 15-10 in the set.
- Much like the first set, the Wildcats and Spartans played close throughout the third. Down 15-13, a big kill from Mullen sparked a 6-3 run Daemen to give the Cats the 19-18 lead late. The game would be tied up three separate times in the set, but Daemen won three of the final four points to take the third set 25-23.
- Daemen and STAC traded points throughout the fourth set, with neither team pulling away with a lead larger than three points. After the Spartans took a 20-17 lead, Daemen rattled off four straight points to lead 21-20 after a pair of Leicht kills. STAC then scored three points of their own to take a 23-21 advantage, and from there it was a race to who could take a two-point lead. The two teams tied it up five times down the stretch, but Daemen ultimately survived the fourth set thriller after kills from Maverick O'Neill (East Amherst, N.Y.) and a huge slam from Aidan White (Fairport, N.Y.) to seal the deal at 29-27.
