AMHERST, N.Y. -- Daemen University men's basketball freshman Nakyhi Harris (Buffalo, N.Y.) was named the East Coast Conference Rookie of the Week for the week of Feb. 2-8. Harris earns a weekly award for the first time in his career, and is the first Daemen player to earn Rookie of the Week this season.

The 6-foot-3 true freshman guard played 40 total minutes this weekend and totaled 20 points while shooting 50% both from the field (6-of-12) and beyond the arc (4-of-8) to help the Wildcats remain undefeated in ECC play this season with wins over UDC and Staten Island. Harris added 4 rebounds, 2 assists and 2 steals on the weekend. The freshman guard tied a season-high 13 points while shooting 5-of-8 from the field in Daemen's 89-75 win over the Dolphins on Sunday. 

Harris has appeared in all 25 games for the Cats this season and is averaging 5.5 points in 15 minutes of playing time per game while shooting 42.7% from the field. 

Harris is the sixth different Wildcat to earn a weekly ECC award, joining Benjamin Bill, Zach Philipkoski, Justin Hemphill, Ryan Heath and Phil Nwugwo. Daemen has been represented in 11 of the 12 weekly awards this season.
