Daemen Falls on the Road to IUP

INDIANA, Pa. — Daemen (3-1) dropped its first game of the season on Wednesday, falling to Indiana University of Pennsylvania (2-3) 19-10 at Miller Stadium. 

Despite the loss, the Wildcats had a strong fourth quarter with four goals, but could not overcome the Crimson Hawks' dominant second quarter, where they scored nine times.

IMPACT PLAYERS
  • Ella Bouley (Auburn, N.Y.) scored two goals on five shots, with three of those on target, showcasing her efficiency.
  • Shannen Calandra (Rome, N.Y) contributed four po two goals and two assists, converting both her shot attempts into goals. 
  • Avery Castner (Penn Yan, N.Y.) added two goals, including one unassisted, from four shots, three of which were on goal. 
  • Camryn Day (Hamburg, N.Y.) tallied an assist and registered a shot on goal, playing a key role in setting up her teammates.
  • Kylie Miranto (North Tonawanda, N.Y.) led the defensive efforts with three caused turnovers and two ground balls. 
IMPACT PLAYERS
  • Despite an early shot by Adison Pollutro (West Seneca, N.Y.) that hit the post, the Wildcats struggled with turnovers and fouls, which provided opportunities for Indiana. The home team capitalized with a player-up goal by Alexi Crosby at 10:08, followed by another goal by Macenzie Haragos. Daemen responded with a free-position goal by Castner at 4:59, closing the gap. However, a late goal by IUP's Lauren Riggs extended its lead. The quarter concluded with the Crimson Hawks leading 3-1.
  • Bouley initiated the second quarter for Daemen with an early goal at 14:52, bringing the Wildcats within one at 3-2. Calandra added to the Wildcats' offense with another goal at 14:10, but IUP quickly responded with eight straight goals, extending its lead to 11-3. Sylvie Dickerman (Corning, N.Y.) managed to break Indiana's scoring run with a goal assisted by Ava Smith (Hamburg, N.Y.) at 3:16. Calandra scored again at 2:02, showcasing Daemen's resilience. Despite these efforts, the Crimson Hawks maintained their advantage, concluding the quarter with a 12-5 lead.
  • Daemen started the third quarter responding to an IUP tally with a goal by Maria Salvo (Clarence, N.Y.) at 13:23, marking a brief spark for the Wildcats. IUP quickly regained control, scoring multiple times to extend its lead.
  • In the fourth quarter, Daemen's offensive efforts were highlighted by a quick goal from Bouley at 14:23, followed by Mikayla Myer's (Geneva, N.Y.) score, assisted by Day, at 12:10. The Wildcats continued to apply pressure, with Castner finding the net at 4:45, assisted by Calandra, and Smith scoring with another assist from Calandra at 1:57. 
GAME NOTES
  • Bouley collected a career-high eight draw controls.
  • Clandra posted her second multi-goal game of the season. Her four points also marked a season-high
  • Bouley also logged her second multi-goal performance while Castner recorded her third.
  • Daemen posted five caused turnovers and scooped up 12 ground balls in the contest.
  • The Wildcats went 11-for-13 on clears.
  • Daemen won 13 draw controls, led by Bouley's eight. 
  • This was the first meeting between the programs
