AMHERST, N.Y. — Daemen (8-4, 3-1 ECC) earned a 16–9 victory over crosstown rival D'Youville (5-9, 2-1 ECC) on Wednesday.
The Wildcats' offense was relentless, scoring five goals in both the second and fourth quarters, while maintaining a perfect 15-for-15 on clears. The visitors managed to net four goals in the final quarter but could not overcome the Wildcats' lead. The game was halted twice for lightning delays, but Daemen persevered to earn the win.
IMPACT PLAYERS
- Maria Salvo (Clarence, N.Y.) led the Wildcats with five goals and added an assist, including the game-winning score.
- Kylie Miranto (North Tonawanda, N.Y.) contributed two goals and one assist, making six of her eight shots on goal.
- Camryn Day (Hamburg, N.Y.) tallied two goals and two assists, converting all three of her shots into scoring opportunities.
- Adison Pollutro (West Seneca, N.Y.) finished with a hat trick, scoring three goals on four shots, with one of her goals coming as a woman-up goal.
- Defensively, Jenna Havert (Newark, N.Y.) led the team and tied her career-high with four caused turnovers while collecting two ground balls.
- Ella Bouley (Auburn, N.Y.) tallied three caused turnovers and collected five ground balls, tying her career-high in both.
- Miranto also caused two turnovers and scooped up five ground balls.
- Freshman goalie Mia Caryl (Marcellus, N.Y.) made five saves to earn the victory.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
- The opening quarter started with the Wildcats capitalizing on a turnover as Pollutro scored the first goal at 11:44, assisted by Salvo. D'Youville responded with a goal from Madison Handley, leveling the score. As the quarter progressed, the Wildcats regained momentum with Salvo's goal at 3:41, assisted by Sadie Schlesselman (Lancaster, N.Y.), tying the game again. However, the Saints scored in the final minute, giving the visitors a 3–2 lead at the end of the first quarter.
- The Wildcats opened the second quarter with a goal by Salvo, assisted by Shannen Calandra (Rome, N.Y.), at 14:17 to level the score. Following a back-and-forth stretch, Pollutro found the net at 9:33 with a woman-up goal, assisted by Day, regaining momentum. Schlesselman further extended the Wildcats' advantage with a goal at 9:05. Despite a response from D'Youville, Salvo secured another goal at 4:09, assisted by Marianna Szamoskozi (Port Coquitlam, B.C.) to keep the Wildcats ahead. Miranto capped off the quarter with a goal at 0:36, ensuring a commanding finish. The quarter ended with the Wildcats leading 7–5.
- In the third, the Wildcats capitalized on a series of Saints turnovers to dominate the quarter, beginning with Salvo's goal at 13:15, assisted by Miranto. Miranto continued to impact the game, scoring a free position goal at 9:34, extending Daemen's lead. Salvo added another goal at 5:53, prompting a timeout from D'Youville. Day sealed the quarter with a goal at 1:39, capping a strong frame for the home team, who led 11–5.
- The Wildcats opened the fourth quarter with a strong offensive push, as Bouley scored a woman-up goal with an assist from Mikayla Myer (Geneva, N.Y.) at 14:35. Castner continued the momentum with another goal at 12:51, assisted by Day, increasing the lead. Although the Saints responded with three consecutive goals to narrow the deficit, Day found the back of the net again at 2:01, solidifying the lead. Pollutro sealed the game with a final goal at 00:36, assisted by Calandra.
