Macfarlane Scores But Wildcats Fall at AIC

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. — Daemen fell to American International 4-1 on Tuesday at Ronald J. Abdow Field.

AIC scored twice in each half, while the Wildcats' lone goal came before halftime. The Wildcats generated nine of their 14 shots after the break and put 11 shots on goal overall, but were held scoreless in the second half.

HIGHLIGHTS
  • The Wildcats answered a two-goal deficit in the 19th minute, when Lily Macfarlane (Murcott, England) scored to make it 2-1.
  • The Yellowjackets struck twice in the opening 14 minutes, gaining a 2-0 lead.
  • AIC converted a penalty kick at 49:04, and Liz Braz scored at 51:31 to make it 4-1.
  • Earlier, Macfarlane put the Wildcats' first shot on goal in the fourth minute, but it was saved.
  • Rylee Kumer (Ambridge, Pa.) helped keep the match scoreless through an early American Int'l push that included a corner and three shots.
  • Ava Thompson (East Amherst, N.Y.) and Casey Keller (Rochester, N.Y.) each forced saves later in the half.
  • The Wildcats added two late corners before trailing 2-1 at halftime.
  • Daemen added more attacking pressure, getting five shots between the 50th and 59th minutes, including saved attempts by Macayla Hansen (Highlands Ranch, Colo.), Kaitlin Mettler (Royalton, N.Y.), Victoria DiCarlo (North Tonawanda, N.Y.), and Mia Wright (Liverpool, N.Y.).
  • Kumer helped the Wildcats get through a stretch of American International pressure without conceding again, making saves in the 60th, 66th, and 77th minutes.
  • The Wildcats kept pushing late with shots from Wright, Taylor Fiegel (Lockport, N.Y.), and Reese Downey (Hamburg, N.Y.), but they couldn't capitalize.
GAME NOTES
  • Macfarlane scored her first goal of the season and put both of her shots on goal.
  • Wright led the Wildcats with three shots, all of them on goal.
  • Kumer recorded seven saves in 90 minutes.
  • Daemen recorded 14 shots, firing 11 on frame.
  • The Wildcats had three corners, all in the first half.
