Daemen Hosts Rival D'Youville Wednesday, Treks to CSI Saturday

CONTINUING ECC ACTION
The Daemen women's soccer team (1-7-1) continues conference play this week. The Wildcats host rival D'Youville at 6 p.m. on Wednesday before traveling to the College of Staten Island for a 12 p.m. game on Saturday.

LAST TIME OUT
The Wildcats fell 4-0 to Mercy at home last Saturday. Daemen recorded four shots in the contest, putting three on target. Macayla Hansen (Highlands Ranch, Colo.) fired a shot at 13:07, forcing a save. Daemen had four corners in the first half but could not capitalize. The Wildcats pushed for chances in the second half. Mia Dickens (Boise, Idaho) put a shot on frame in the 69th minute. Daemen had a corner kick in the 73rd minute, and Taylor Fiegel (Lockport, N.Y.) fired one wide shortly after. In the 83rd minute, Aliyah Hien (Kenmore, Wash.) ripped a shot that was saved. Goalie Rylee Kumer (Ambridge, Pa.) finished with five saves in 90 minutes.

CAREER FIRSTS
Several Wildcats have logged their first career goals this season. Freshmen Bridey McKenzie (Amherst, N.Y.), and Zainab Khalid (Penfield, N.Y.), and Hein scored their first career goals in the victory over Post University on Sept. 4. Mia Wright (Liverpool, N.Y.) netted her first career goal against #17 Bentely. Dickens notched her first point with an assist against Post.

MAKING THE SAVES
Kumer has made 61 saves thus far, leading the ECC and ranking tied for 13th nationally. The junior is averaging 6.78 saves per game, ranking fourth in the conference and tied for 21st nationally. She stopped eight shots against Molloy and made seven saves against AIC. Kumer logged a career-high 12 saves against Saint Anselm and registered 11 saves at #17 Mercy. She stopped five shots against Tiffin and two in the win over Post. The keeper also made eight stops in the season opener against Malone.

SCHEDULE OUTLOOK
The Wildcats will play 16 games this season, including eight at home and eight on the road. Following this week, Daemen heads to Roberts Wesleyan on Oct. 7. The Wildcats return home to host Queens on Oct. 10 before welcoming Franklin Pierce for a non-conference match on Oct. 14. It's then back-to-back road contests to wrap up the season with a non-ECC game at D'Youville on Oct. 21 and a trip to St. Thomas Aquinas on Oct. 24.
SCOUTING D'YOUVILLE (4-3-1, 2-0 ECC)
The Saints have won three straight games, most recently defeating Molloy (1-0) last Saturday. D'Youville also beat Staten Island (2-1) on Sept. 19 and AIC (2-0) on Sept. 16. Gabrielle Giesing and Emily Stefik have each scored two goals for the Saints. Kayla Frasca has logged a goal and an assist, while Ariana Dandu and Manta Socada have also found the back of the net. Alegra Black and Amanda Kit have split time in goal, with each starting four games. Alegra has logged a 2-1-1 record, a .813 save percentage, and a 1.50 goals-against average. Black holds a 2-2-0 record, a .875 save percentage, and a 1.00 goals-against average.

SERIES HISTORY
The Wildcats are unbeaten against the Saints with an 8-0-1 record. Last season, the two teams played to a 0-0 draw. Daemen earned a 2-0 win during the 2024 campaign. The Wildcats have not allowed a goal against the Saints in four straight meetings.
SCOUTING CSI (1-5, 0-2 ECC)
The Dolphins fell 2-0 at Roberts Wesleyan last Saturday, and 3-1 to #15 Saint Michael's last Wednesday. CSI's lone win came over Caldewell (1-0) on Sept. 12. Caitlyn Thompson has a team-leading five points and two goals, also tallying one assist. Addison Lucy has scored once. Goalie Oksana Zahirna has started all six games, logging a 1-5-0 record, a 1.67 goals-against average, and an .841 save percentage.

SERIES HISTORY
The Wildcats hold a 5-0 record against Staten Island, dating back to 2021. Last season, Daemen defeated Staten Island 3-0 at home. The Wildcats also beat CSI 5-1 in 2024..
