Krelie's Stirke Sends Wildcats Past Saints

AMHERST, N.Y. — Natalie Krelie's (Bath, N.Y.) 27th-minute strike earned Daemen (2-7-1, 1-2 ECC) a 1-0 win over rival D'Youville (4-4-1, 2-1 ECC) on Wednesday evening at Royal Park.

The Wildcats held D'Youville scoreless over 90 minutes, with their goalkeeper Rylee Kumer (Ambridge, Pa.) credited with two saves and a shutout. The Wildcats finished with a 16-10 advantage in shots and put seven attempts on goal while D'Youville had two.


"We played very well in all facets of the game today. It was great to see us put an entire game together and get rewarded for it," said head coach Dan Dolan. "We were buzzing all game, fighting for every ball. Great team win. Hopefully we can build from it."


HIGHLIGHTS
  • Kreile gave Daemen a 1-0 win in the 27th minute on a beautiful strike from over 30 yards out. Kaitlin Mettler (Royalton, N.Y.) earned an assist.
  • The Wildcats had a couple of early chances, including Mettler having a shot saved in the second minute and Taylor Fiegel (Lockport, N.Y.) having an attempt stopped in the 12th minute.
  • Lily Macfarlane (Murcott, England) hit a shot off the post in the 22nd minute.
  • Daemen continued to push for chances later in the first, with Bridey McKenzie (Amherst, N.Y.) firing a shot that was saved in the 33rd minute and Kriele and Mettler both putting shots wide minutes after.
  • Kumer made two saves in the first half to keep the Wildcats ahead going into the locker room.
  • Thirty-five seconds into the second half, Mia Wright (Liverpool, N.Y.) ripped a shot that hit off the left post.
  • Fiegel had another shot saved in the 54th minute. Wright also had one saved four minutes later.
  • Daemen's backline kept the Saints quiet as the half progressed.
  • Macfarlane put one more shot on frame in the 86th minute, and the Wildcats followed with a corner kick before seeing out the final minutes.
GAME NOTES
  • Krelie scored her first career goal. She also finished with two shots, putting one on frame.
  • Mettler recorded her first point of the season with an assist. The sophomore added three shots, including one on goal.
  • Fiegel led the Wildcats with five shots and placed two on goal.
  • Kumer logged two saves in 90 minutes. She posted her first shutout as a Wildcat.
  • Daemen fired 16 shots, putting seven on target.
  • The Wildcats had five corners, including three in the first half and two in the second.
  • Daemen remained unbeaten against the Saints and hold a 9-0-1 record against D'Youville.
