After serving as a graduate assistant for one season, Grandits has risen to become the program's top assistant. He is involved with all aspects of the program, including on-floor coaching, scouting of opponents and recruiting. Grandits has aided in the development of numerous players who have generated all-conference recognition, and the Wildcats have reached the 20-win plateau in five of his eight seasons. Team accomplishments during his time as an assistant include the 2018-19 East Coast Conference regular season championship, three NCAA tournament berths (2019, 2020, 2021) and one NCAA tournament East Region title (2021). His contributions to Daemen's success have not gone unnoticed. In 2019, Grandits was named to the Under Armour National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC) 30-Under-30 Team, a collection of the most outstanding men's college basketball coaches under the age of 30. "I am very excited to see Ryan recognized by the NABC for his great work with our program," MacDonald said at the time. "Nobody deserves this recognition more. He is a tireless worker and someone who is committed to the development of our student-athletes. Ryan is an important member of our team and one of the big reasons for our success the last couple of years." Before beginning his coaching career, Grandits completed a four-year collegiate playing career. He spent three seasons at Division III Medaille College, including two playing for MacDonald. The two reunited at Daemen for the 2015-16 season with Grandits utilizing his final year of eligibility as a graduate transfer. In his one season playing for the Wildcats, Grandits helped the team to a 19-10 overall record by appearing in 27 games and averaging 7.8 points and 4.1 rebounds. Including his time at Medaille, Grandits played in 107 college games, including 53 as a starter, and totaled 902 points and 421 rebounds. Grandits is a 2015 graduate of Medaille where he earned a bachelors degree in sport management. He added a masters degree in international business from Daemen in 2017.
