Women's Soccer 10/16/2017 4:25:00 PM Mike Miranto, Associate A.D. For Communications White Named ECC Women's Soccer Rookie of the Week AMHERST, N.Y. - Freshman goalkeeper Katelin White (Lewiston, N.Y.) of Daemen College has been named the East Coast Conference Women's Soccer Rookie of the Week for games played October 9-15. The official announcement was made via the league's weekly sport report which was released this afternoon from conference headquarters in West Babylon, N.Y. White continued her solid rookie season with nine saves in Daemen's 2-0 victory Saturday over a University of Bridgeport team that opened the season as the No. 7 ranked team in the country, and that was picked as the preseason favorite to win a third-straight ECC title. White's efforts helped the Wildcats combat a 21-13 disparity in total shot attempts as she recorded her third shutout of the season, improving her individual goalkeeping record to 5-3-1. The win, Daemen's first in the all-time series with Bridgeport, pushed the Wildcats (7-5-1, 3-3-0 ECC) into fourth place in the league standings. Two of Daemen's final four regular season contests come against ECC foes. The top four teams in the final regular season standings advance to the ECC Tournament. White's Rookie of the Week selection is her third weekly accolade of the season; she had previously earned ECC Defensive Player of the Week honors for Sept. 4-10 and ECC Rookie of the Week honors for Sept. 11-17. It was also Daemen's seventh weekly accolade as a team this season, the most since Daemen joined the ECC in 2013. Like White, fellow freshman goalkeeper Maddie Flores (Seattle, Wash.) has previously earned both Rookie and Defensive Player of the Week honors (Sept. 18-24; Sept. 25-Oct. 1). And, sophomore forward Jamie Boyar (Williamsville, N.Y.) has been a two-time ECC Offensive Player of the Week honoree (Sept. 4-10; Oct. 2-8) For the season, White ranks third among ECC goalkeepers in total saves (61) and save percentage (.824). She also ranks fourth in fewest goals allowed (13) and sixth in goals-against average (1.32). The White-Flores duo has combined to make a league-best 90 saves this season. White and the Wildcats are back in action Wednesday, Oct. 18 with an ECC road game at Queens College (2-9-2, 0-5-1 ECC).
