AMHERST, N.Y. - The Daemen Wildcats improved to 2-0 on the young season today with an impressive 84-61 dispatching of #25 Siena Heights before an estimated 235 fans at Lumsden Gymnasium on the final day of the Lord Amherst Tip-Off Classic.
For the second consecutive game, the Wildcats jumped out to an early lead, enjoying a 19-6 cushion behind the hot shooting of senior guard
Mujeeb Oridami (Brooklyn, NY). Oridami came out hot, hitting on three early three-point baskets on his way to 14 points on the night.
Siena Heights, a veteran ball club, showed some poise as they battled back into the game, cutting the Daemen lead to 34-28 at the half. However, the Wildcats responded with a 50-point second half to seal the win.
Senior forward
Khorri Silcott (Brooklyn, NY) pumped in a game-high 17 points and was named the Most Valuable Player of the weekend's action.
Freshman guard
Casey Sheehan (Rochester, NY) added 15 points and junior Dominic Mazzocchi (Geneva, NY) chipped in with 13 points and six boards.
Logan Mathews paced the Saints with 12 points. Brent Reynolds and Mark Snipes added 11 and 10 points, respectively, in a losing effort.
Reynolds and Sheehan joined Silcott on the All-Lord Amherst Classic Team. Also receiving honors for their play this weekend was Manny Odugbela of Maine-Fort Kent and Jimmy Sherwood of Point Park.
Daemen next travels to Florida where they'll face #5 Embry-Riddle in the first round of the Daytona Beach Mitsubishi Shootout. The Wildcats return home on Nov. 19 & 20 for a pair of games vs. ranked opponents in Cornerstone and Robert Morris.
