Notre Dame (OH) Snaps Daemen's 6-Game Home Winning Streak

AMHERST, N.Y. - The Notre Dame (OH) Falcons avenged an early season loss to the Daemen Wildcats on Saturday afternoon by handing the home-standing Wildcats their 10th loss of the season in a 77-56 decision.  Daemen, who had beat the Falcons in the conference opener for both teams back on Nov. 30, falls to 10-10 overall and 5-4 in American Mideast Conference play as they failed to get anything going offensively all game long.  Notre Dame, in the meanwhile, out-hustled and out-worked Daemen and they were rewarded with 56% shooting (30-for-54) from the field, including 67% (28-for-42) on their two-point field goal attempts.

Daemen's lack of energy was evident throughout the night as they failed to have a lead at any point in the contest.  Notre Dame led by as many as 10 points in the opening frame.  The Wildcats made a run back at them, cutting the deficit to four with 1:12 remaining in the period on a basket by senior Mujeeb Oridami.  The Falcons responded by closing out the half on a 5-0 run to lead 42-37 at halftime.

That run continued into the second half as Notre Dame opened up a double figure lead with an 11-4 spurt to open the frame.  Daemen would cut the lead to 10 on a bucket by freshman guard Casey Sheehan with 8:15 to go but would never get closer than that.  The Falcon lead ballooned back to 18 quickly as Daemen went empty on their next four possessions, including two misses on the front end of one-and-one free throw attempts.

The Wildcats shot a paltry 30% from the field (19-for-63) in the contest, including an 8-for-33 (24%) showing in the second half.  They also connected on just 4-of-21 (19%) from behind the three-point arc.

Notre Dame owned the backboards as well, out-rebounding the Wildcats 41-30 on the night.

All-American candidate Eric Dummermuth paced the Falcons with his conference-leading 12th double-double of the season with 24 points and 11 boards, helping his team snap Daemen's six-game home winning streak in the process.

Freshman guard Taylor Rieger was nearly unstoppable on the perimeter as he hit pull-up jumper after pull-up jumper.  Rieger finished with 14 points on 7-of-12 shooting from the field to go with seven rebounds, three assists and two steals.

Point guard Rodney Mickens added 10 points and four assists to the Falcon cause.

Senior Khorri Silcott led Daemen with 19 points and seven boards.  Sheehan added 13 points, four assists and three steals.

The road doesn't get any easier for Daemen as they travel to #20 Malone (OH) next Saturday to start a stretch of four consecutive game vs. teams who at current lay ahead of the Wildcats in the AMC standings.
