Box Score 3 CANTON, NY - The Daemen College women's volleyball completed a clean sweep of their pool play games on day one of the USCAA National Tournament today on the campus of SUNY Canton. Daemen took down each team 2-0 (best-of-three format) beginning with the host Canton Kangaroos (25-20, 25-18). They followed that by blanking Penn College (25-13, 25-10) and closed out the day by defeating Carlow (25-20, 25-16).
Daemen (22-10), the tournament's top overall seed will close out pool play tomorrow at 1pm when they face Cincinnati-Clermont. The single elimination tournament then begins at 4pm tomorrow. A win in their final pool play match will sew up first place in Pool A for Daemen and they would play at 5:30 against the 4th place finisher from Pool B.
In today's opener against SUNY Canton, sophomore
Ye Wang (Biejing, China/Hachioji Jissen) had eight kills while fellow second-year player
Chelsea Turcer (Alexander, NY/Alexander Central) came up with a team-high 14 assists in leading Daemen past the Kangaroos.
In their romp of Penn College, it was senior
Joanna Fretthold (North Tonawanda, NY/North Tonawanda) leading the way with 11 kills and 10 digs.
Kaley Vazquez (Kenmore, NY./Kenmore West) added 17 assists for the Wildcats.
Stats were not immediately available from Daemen's third win of the day over the Carlow Celtics, formerly of the American Mideast Conference.
