AMHERST, N.Y. – Sophomore Gerald Beverly (Rochester, N.Y./Gates Chili) totaled 26 points and nine rebounds to lead the Daemen College men's basketball team to a 111-87 victory over Wilfrid Laurier University today at Lumsden Gymnasium. It marked the sixth time this season the Wildcats have scored 100 or more points in a game.

Daemen, which is ranked fourth nationally in the latest United States Collegiate Athletic Association (USCAA) Division I poll, improved to 14-4 on the year. The Wildcats remained unbeaten at home this year (9-0) and ran their home winning streak to 19 games dating back to last season. Wilfrid Laurier of the Ontario University Athletics Association dropped to 3-13.

Six players reached double figures for Daemen.  Junior Casey Sheehan (Rochester, N.Y./Greece Athena) totaled 16 points, six rebounds and five assists, while classmate Mark Coppola (Williamsville, N.Y./Williamsville South) also netted 16 points and dished out four assists. Sophomore Jordan Greene (Fort Edward, N.Y./South Glens Falls) connected on 3-of-7 three-pointers and totaled 15 points, while senior Jim Regan (Williamsville, N.Y./Nichols) canned 7-of-11 shots and totaled 14 points and eight rebounds. Junior Troy Nowak (Orchard Park, N.Y./Orchard Park) finished with 10 points, eight rebounds and three steals.

Sophomore William Coulthard led the Golden Hawks with five three-pointers and 26 points. Senior Maxwell Allin, who entered the game averaging 23.7 points per game, totaled 15 points, nine assists and six rebounds.

A tightly played first 16 minutes of action featured five ties and eight lead changes. Neither team led by more than six points during that stretch. Wilfred Laurier tied the game at 37-37 following a three-pointer by  Coulthard with 4:07 left before halftime, but the Wildcats then exploded for 16 unanswered points over the next 2:37.  Regan scored six points during the rally, which also featured two huge steals by Nowak and one theft by Coppola that led to layups. A steal and layup in traffic by Nowak with 1:09 left before intermission capped the run and gave Daemen a 53-37 lead. The Wildcats took a 53-41 lead into the break.

Daemen held a 56-47 lead early in the second half when the Wildcats put together a 12-6 run. A three-pointer by Greene with 13:40 to play capped the run and gave the hosts a 68-53 lead. The Golden Hawks later cut the lead to 11 points, 70-59, following a triple by Coulthard with 12:54 left, but the Wildcats put together another 12-6 run and took a 17-point lead, 82-65, following two free throws by Nowak with 9:59 left.  The Golden Hawks came no closer than 13 points the rest of the way.

The Wildcats shot 57-percent (42-74) overall and connected on 6-of-13 three-pointers. The Wildcats finished with a 50-42 advantage in rebounding that led to a commanding 60-32 edge in points in the paint. The Golden Hawks shot just 39-percent (33-85) from the field overall and made just 7-of-23 from behind and arc.

Daemen returns to action Dec. 28 when it hosts Redeemer University College. Game time is 7:30 p.m. at Lumsden Gymnasium.
