ROCHESTER, N.Y. - The Daemen College women's track and field team opened their 2012-13 season today at the Early Season Invitational hosted by the Rochester Institute of Technology.  Today's event marked the first indoor event for Daemen's track and field program since being established in 2010.

Highlighting the Wildcats' efforts today was freshman sprinter Casey Oliphant (Lockport, N.Y./Lockport) who won the 200 meter dash with a time of 27.10, besting Geneseo State's Diahann Cuevo by .24 seconds.  Oliphant also ran the third-fastest time (8.21) in the 60-meter dash preliminaries before taking sixth in the finals with a time of 8.32 seconds.

In long distance running, freshman Brooke Nolan (Depew, N.Y./Depew) took fifth in the 1000 meter run with a time 3:19.31 while fellow freshman Jordan Weir (Cato, N.Y./Cato-Meridian) ran a 5:39.85 mile to finish in seventh in the one-mile run.

In field events, Daemen was paced by junior Ashley Pinette (Rowley, Mass./Westfield State).  Pinette was one of four competitors in a 25-athlete field with a shot put throw of at least 10 meters, finishing in fourth place in the event with a toss of 10.21 meters.
