Wildcats Host 1st Women's Tennis Match

9/29/2012 7:20:00 PM

AMHERST, NY - The Daemen College women's tennis team hosted the first home match in program history today, falling 8-1 to the visiting Fredonia State Blue Devils at the Ellicott Courts on the campus of the University at Buffalo. Despite the result, it was a positive step for the first-year program, according to head coach Kelly Brown.

"No matter what the score was, today was a historic day for Daemen College athletics," Brown said. "This has all come together so quickly. We've found a great partner in UB and we thank them for the opportunity to play our home matches here."

The Blue Devils swept the three doubles matches and was nearly unbeaten in singles play, as well. However, Daemen freshman Shaylah Iverson (Canandaigua, NY/Naples HS) picked up a win at #1 singles to help Daemen avoid the shutout.

The Wildcats are back in action when they travel to Cazenovia College for a 12pm match tomorrow.
