FAIRVIEW, Pa. - The Daemen College women's cross country team was back in action for the first time in two weeks today, finishing in fourth place at the 8th Annual Mercyhurst/Gannon Invitational held at Pleasant Ridge Park.
Daemen's 74 points put them in just behind third-place Mercyhurst College. Â The co-hosts totaled 72 points to lock up their top-three finish in the team standings.
Edinboro University (36) edged the event's other co-host, Gannon University (42), by just six points to win the team title. Â Gannon's Veronica Bujdos set the pace and won the 5K race, coming in at 18:38.
Daemen was once again led by freshman Mackenzie Donahue (East Aurora, N.Y./East Aurora). Â Donahue continued her dominant rookie campaign with a runner-up finish in the race, timing out at 19:40. Â She's led the team in all four races so far this year with a couple record-setting times mixed in.
Sophomore Jordan Weir (Cato, N.Y./Cato-Meridian) was in next for Daemen, finishing in 11th place with a time of 21:07. Â Classmate Ally Pajak (West Seneca, N.Y./West Seneca East) finished in 16th with her top 5K time of the season (21:33).
Freshman Brittany Denton (Oakfield, N.Y./Oakfield-Alabama) and sophomore Brooke Nolan (Depew, N.Y./Depew) rounded out the scorers for Daemen, finishing in 22nd and 23rd, respectively. Â
The Wildcats will get another stretch of rest before returning to racing as a participant for the first time at the East Coast Conference Championships on Oct. 27.
