FREDONIA, N.Y. – The Daemen College women's tennis team lost 8-1 to host SUNY Fredonia State on Wednesday afternoon.  With the loss, the Wildcats fall to 1-2 on the season.

Despite the loss, there were several competitive matches and the Wildcats are continuing to improve, according to head coach Stephen Beatty, who said, "there were a lot of close matches today, but we couldn't win the big points."

The Blue Devils swept the three doubles matches and went nearly unbeaten in singles play, as well. However, Daemen freshman Hayle Scanlan (Indianapolis, Ind./Perry Meridian) picked up a win at No. 1 singles to help Daemen avoid the shutout.

The Wildcats return to action when they host the New York Institute of Technology on this Friday (Sept. 13) in the team's home opener.  The match will also be the first-ever East Coast Conference match hosted by the College, and takes place at Park Country Club in Williamsville.
