AMHERST, N.Y. - The Daemen College men's soccer team appears to have a flare for the dramatic in 2013.

Freshman forward Alex Reid (Lockport, N.Y./Lockport) found a streaking Kyle Clifford (West Seneca, N.Y./St. Francis) with a crossing feed in the middle of the box that the senior striker put home to give the Wildcats a 2-1 overtime victory against crosstown rival Buffalo State College at Dimp Wagner Stadium today.

It was the second overtime win of the season for Daemen which evened its record at 2-2-0.  The upstart Bengals, who've already eclipsed last season's win total (1-16-1), fell to 2-3-1.

Clifford's "golden goal" came at the 96:05 mark from Reid.  The Wildcats opened the season with a double overtime win over Roberts Wesleyan College on Sept. 5 when Clifford found Reid for the winning tally.

Overtime was needed with the score knotted at 1-1 after 90:00.  Clifford had put Daemen on the board in the 26th minute.  BSC goalkeeper Robby Kuhnle made two difficult stops - one on a shot by freshman Cole Beale (Hamburg, N.Y./Hamburg) and then on the rebound shot from senior Zakariah Hall (Wells, England/The Blue School).  Clifford gathered the second rebound and niftily touched the ball between a couple Bengal defenders and into the goal.

BSC would get the equalizer in the 80th minute from Dylan Ross - his first of the season.  A Daemen clearing attempt on a corner kick caromed right to the Bengals' Robert Baxter-Dennis just inside midfield.  Baxter-Dennis served a pass back into the box to Ross who capitalized on the opportunity.  It appeared as if the linesman's flag may go up signaling an offside call, but Ross was deemed to be onside and the goal stood.

That set the stage for Clifford's game-winner, his fourth marker of the season and the 24th of his career.  Reid busted up the right side and took a nifty one-touch pass from Beale into the box before sending his pass across to Clifford.

"I thought our guys showed a lot of character in bouncing back from a tough performance against Maine-Fort Kent last weekend," said head coach Mark Spacone.  "I couldn't be prouder of the guys for the effort they put forth to get this win today."

Junior goalkeeper Matt Daddario (Amherst, N.Y./Sweet Home) made four saves to pick up the win for Daemen.

Buffalo State got a little chippy late in the game and was whistled for three yellow cards in the second half.

It was Daemen's second straight win in the all-time series against the Bengals.  The Wildcats were 2-1 winners in the series' contest last season at BSC's Coyer Field.

The Wildcats will get one more non-conference game in preparation for East Coast Confernce (ECC) play when they travel to The College at Brockport for a 4:30 start on Tuesday (Sept. 17). Conference play kicks off next Saturday (Sept. 21) when Daemen hosts Queens College.
