CLINTON, N.Y. - The Daemen College women's track and field team began their second season of indoor competition today by partaking in the Continental Invitational hosted by Hamilton College in Central New York.

Transfer Toria Williams (Buffalo, N.Y./Medaille College) paced the squad in her Wildcat debut, earning a runner-up finish in the shot put with a toss of 11.51 meters.  Williams' long toss was 0.21 meters short of the throw of event winner Paige Wilson (11.72 meters) of St. John Fisher College.  Williams was joined in the top 10 of the event by veteran Ashley Pinette (Rowley, Mass./Westfield State University), last season's team M.V.P., who finished in 10th with a throw of 9.92 meters.

Also earning top-10 finishes was mid-distance runner Brittany Denton (Oakfield, N.Y./Oakfield-Alabama), long distance runner Jordan Weir (Cato, N.Y./Cato-Meridian) and sprinter Morgan Stefanik (Corning, N.Y./Corning-Painted Post West).  Denton, a freshman, made a strong debut in the 1000-meter run, finishing in fourth with a time of 3:21.48, just nine seconds off the pace set by Megan Hulton of East Coast Conference rival Roberts Wesleyan College (3:12.35).  Weir, the diminutive sophomore, picked up right where she left off last spring, earning a seventh-place finish in the 3000-meter run with a time of 11:23.61.  Stefanik finished in ninth in the 500-meter dash with a time of 1:30.09.

The Wildcats' 4 X 400 relay team, comprised of Noelle Thompson (Vestal, N.Y./Vestal), Brooke Nolan (Depew, N.Y./Depew), Ashley Cheff (Niagara Falls, N.Y./Niagara Falls) and Denton, also picked up a top-10 finish with a time of 4:41.41 which was good for seventh place.

Today's invitational marked the first of four indoor events for the Wildcats in preparation for the East Coast Conference Indoor Track and Field Championships which are set for Saturday, Feb. 22 in Huntington, N.Y.

The Wildcats return to action next Saturday (Feb. 1) at The College At Brockport Invitational.
