Men's Tennis Remains Unbeaten

HOUGHTON, N.Y. - The Daemen College men's tennis team picked up its third win in as many matches this season by defeating host Houghton College 6-3 in a non-conference affair today.

Daemen swept through today's doubles matches to establish an early 3-0 lead before splitting the day's singles action.

It started with the team of sophomore John LeMar (North Tonawanda, N.Y./North Tonawanda) and Mark Veitengruber (Rockford, Mich./Rockford) who battled to an 8-5 win at No. 1 doubles over Houghton's Brennen Campbell and Matthew James.

Daemen's Joey Gentile (East Amherst, N.Y./Niagara University) and Gregory Lowe (East Aurora, N.Y./East Aurora) had an easier time at No. 2 doubles, downing Jordan Crouch and Chase Rangel 8-2.

Then, Zach Kinnaird (Amherst, N.Y./Sweet Home) and Adam Kerr (Penfield, N.Y./McQuaid Jesuit) gutted out an 8-6 win at No. 3 doubles vs. the Highlanders' Daniel Hammers and Jordan Scott.

In singles play, Daemen picked up points from Veitengruber (No. 1), Lowe (No. 2) and Kerr (No. 4) to help the seal the deal.

With the loss, Houghton dropped to 0-2 on the young season.

Daemen is back in action tomorrow with another non-conference match, this one at Fairmont State University in Fairmont, W.Va. at 3 p.m.
