BOX SCORE

FAIRMONT, W.Va. - The Daemen College men's tennis team won their fourth straight match to open the 2014-15 season today, defeating host Fairmont State University 7-2.

The Wildcats swept through doubles play to establish a 3-0 lead to open the match.  Sophomore John LeMar (North Tonawanda, N.Y./North Tonawanda) and freshman Mark Veitengruber (Rockford, Mich./Rockford) teamed up at No. 1 doubles to take down the Fighting Falcons' top team of Zack Hatfield and Aaron Leo by an 8-5 margin.  At No. 2 doubles, Gregory Lowe (East Aurora, N.Y./East Aurora) and Joey Gentile (East Amherst, N.Y./Niagara University) were 8-4 winners over FSU's David Bannister and Alex Morgan.  FSU did not enter a No. 3 doubles team which gave a default win to Daemen's John Wilson (Seneca Falls, N.Y./Mynderse) and Zach Kinnaird (Amherst, N.Y./Sweet Home).

In singles action, Veitengruber won his match in the No. 1 slot for the second straight day, defeating Hatfield 6-1, 6-1.

Lowe gave himself a two-point day as well, winning his match at No. 2 singles over FSU's Aaron Leo.  Lowe battled back from a one-set-to-none deficit to win the point for the Wildcats (4-6, 6-3, 1-0).

The Wildcats picked up additional points with singles wins by Adam Kerr (Penfield, N.Y./McQuaid Jesuit) and Alex White (Norwich, N.Y./Norwich).

Daemen looks to keep the momentum rolling when they visit West Liberty University for a noon match on Sunday.
