BOX SCOREWEST LIBERTY, W.Va. - The Daemen College men's tennis team saw their unblemished record fall by the wayside today as the Wildcats dropped a 9-0 match on the road to West Liberty University. With today's result, Daemen now stands at 4-1 this season, while the Hilltoppers up their mark to 2-0.
Daemen's
John LeMar (North Tonawanda, N.Y./North Tonawanda) and
Mark Veitengruber (Rockford, Mich./Rockford) teamed up at No. 1 doubles and put up a valliant effort, btu eventually fell to WLU's Andy Ponder and Santiago Guiterrez, 8-6.
Also in doubles, in the No. 3 slot, Daemen's
Zach Kinnaird (Amherst, N.Y./Sweet Home) and
Adam Kerr (Penfield, N.Y./McQuaid Jesuit) battled to an 8-4 loss to Alex Hayden and Hayden Blazer.
In singles action, the Wildcats best match came from sophomore
Gregory Lowe (East Aurora, N.Y./East Aurora) who fell to Martin Moncayo in the No. 2 slot, 6-0, 7-5, while newcomer
Joey Gentile (East Amherst, N.Y./Niagara University) fell to Guiterrez in the No. 1 position, 6-4, 6-1.
Today's match was the Wildcats' final outing of the fall season. They'll resume their 2014-15 season when they travel to Rochester, N.Y. on Feb. 22 to face the Rochester Institute of Technology.
