BOX SCOREWEST LIBERTY, W.Va. - The Daemen College women's tennis team dropped a 9-0 decision today to West Liberty University, one of the top teams in the Mountain East Conference. The loss runs Daemen's overall record to 4-9 this season while the Hilltoppers improved to 5-1.
For the second straight day, the Wildcats dug themselves an early hole after West Liberty swept through the three doubles pairing to open the match. The team of
Gretchen Ringler (North Tonawanda, N.Y./North Tonawanda) and
Tianna Washington (North Chili, N.Y./Monroe CC) put up the best fight for the Wildcats, but eventually fell, 8-3, to the Hilltoppers' Kate Pinchuk and Alaina Pauley in the No. 3 doubles slot.
In singles action, WLU swept through unscathed, dropping only five games across the six pairings.
Daemen returns to East Coast Conference play this week when the Wildcats play host to Dowling College on Thursday, Oct. 16. That match, the Wildcats' first at home since a 7-2 victory over SUNY Fredonia on Sept. 19, gets going at 6:30 p.m. under the lights at Park Country Club.
