BOX SCORE

WILLIAMSVILLE, N.Y. - The Daemen College women's tennis team battled brisk temperatures and picked up a 6-3 victory over visiting Thiel College today at Park Country Club.  The win today moves Daemen to 5-10 this season while snapping a three-match skid.

Coach Stephen Beatty's squad got off to a slow start, dropping two of the three doubles matchups, before regrouping with five wins in singles competition to take the match.

The team of Aman Shamaa (Clarence, N.Y./Clarence) and Maria McGrath (Fairport, N.Y./Fairport) got Daemen on the board as they won their match in the No. 2 doubles slot over the Tomcats' Sara Matczak and Lauren Wolfe, 8-2.

Shamaa was a double-point winner for the Wildcats as she picked up a win in the No. 4 singles slot over Wolfe.  Shamaa took the first set 6-0 before Wolfe evened things up with a 6-2 win in the second.  Shamaa took the deciding third set 6-4 in the only singles match to go the distance.

The Wildcats also picked up singles wins from Hayle Scanlan (Indianapolis, Ind./Perry Meridian), Gretchen Ringler (North Tonawanda, N.Y./North Tonawanda), Celina Wozniak (Tonawanda, N.Y./Kenmore East) and Sarah Crissy (Tonawanda, N.Y./Kenmore East) in the Nos. 1, 2, 3, and 5 slots, respectively.

Thiel dropped to 3-9 on the season with the loss.

It remains to be seen if today's match will be the Wildcats' last of the fall season.  A previously cancelled East Coast Conference match vs. Dowling College may potentially be re-scheduled for later this week.
