CLINTON, N.Y. - It was a busy day for the Daemen College women's track and field team as the Wildcats racked up several top-10 finishes while competing at the six-team Hamilton College Invitational today in the team's final tune up for the East Coast Conference Indoor Track and Field Championships.

Leah May (Palmyra, N.Y./Palmyra-Macedon), Brittany Denton (Oakfield, N.Y./Oakfield-Alabama) and Toria Williams (Buffalo, N.Y./Medaille College) all won their respective events to pace the Wildcats this afternoon.  May topped the field in the 400-meter dash with a time of 1:06.35 while Denton did her damage on the track as well, winning the 1000-meter run with a time of 3:15.80.  Williams' strong season in the shot put circle continued as she launched a season-best throw of 12.21 meters to win that event - her first win of the year after  picking up two runner-up finishes in earlier meets.

Freshman Kathryn Gross (Amherst, N.Y./Amherst) led the Daemen sprinters today, earning fifth in the 60-meter dash (8.33 seconds) and eighth in the 200-meter dash (28.07 seconds).

In the middle distance races, Brooke Nolan (Depew, N.Y./Depew) and Noelle Thompson (Vestal, N.Y./Vestal) finished eighth and ninth, respectively, in the 800-meter run.  Nolan's time of 2:33.26 was just a shade faster than Thompson's time of 2:38.72.

At the longer distances, Ashely Cheff (Niagara Falls, N.Y./Niagara Falls) was the runner-up in the one-mile run (5:48.19), followed soon thereafter by veteran Ally Pajak (West Seneca, N.Y./West Seneca East) who finished in fifth (6:07.06).  Sophomore Jordan Weir (Cato, N.Y./Cato-Meridian) finished third in the 3000-meter run as well (10:57.06).

In field events, Ashley Krol (Depew, N.Y./Depew) earned a pair of top-five finishes.  She was third in the triple jump (9.69 meters) and fourth in the long jump (4.39 meters).

Behind Williams in the shot put, Ashley Pinette (Rowley, Mass./Westfield State University) and Mariah Burkhard (Churchville, N.Y./Churchville-Chili) were strong once again for Daemen.  Pinette's toss of 10.40 meters was good for third place while Burkhard (9.59 meters) finished in sixth.  Pinette added a 10th place showing in the 20-pound weight throw with a throw of 10.30 meters.

Daemen closes the indoor portion of their 2013-14 schedule at the ECC Championships in Huntington, N.Y. next Saturday (Feb. 22).
