BROCKPORT, N.Y. - Throwers
Toria Williams (Buffalo, N.Y./Medaille College),
Ashley Pinette (Rowley, Mass./Westfield State University) and
Mariah Burkhard (Churchville, N.Y./Churchville-Chili) led the way for the Daemen College women's track and field team today, as each earned top-20 finishes in the shot put at the Golden Eagle Invite hosted by The College At Brockport.
Williams' long toss of 11.91 meters, a season-best, was good for runner-up honors in the event - her second runner-up performance in the shot put already this season. Â Pinette earned 12th place honors with a toss of 10.25 meters and Burkhard was next with a toss of 9.68 meters which put her in 19th. Â Daemen joined the host Golden Eagles and the University of Rochester as the only teams to place three throwers in the top 20 of the event. Â Pinette added a 21st-place finish in the 20-pound weight throw (11.23 meters).
Freshman
Brittany Denton (Oakfield, N.Y./Oakfield-Alabama) continued her solid rookie campaign as she finished 10th in the 800-meter run with a time of 2:29.41 while classmate
Ashley Krol (Depew, N.Y./Depew) finished in 18th and 19th in the long (4.76 meters) and triple (9.63 meters) jumps, respectively.
Fellow freshman
Leah May (Palmyra, N.Y./Palmyra-Macedon) added a top-10 finish to the Daemen cause with her seventh-place performance in the 500-meter dash (1:28.84), finishing just under eight seconds off the pace.
Long distance runner
Jordan Weir (Cato, N.Y./Cato-Meridian) ran her 1-mile race in 5:34.84 to finish in 15th place. Â Freshman
Ashley Cheff (Niagara Falls, N.Y./Niagara Falls) came in five seconds later (5:39.86) to grab 20th.
The Wildcats will get one more tune-up for the upcoming East Coast Conference Indoor Track and Field Championships (Sat., Feb. 22) when they travel to Central New York for next weekend's Hamilton College Invitational (Sat., Feb. 15).
