Daemen Outlasts Alfred

WILLIAMSVILLE, N.Y. - After four hours on the courts, the Daemen College men's tennis team won a 5-4 match over Alfred University this evening at Miller Tennis Center.  With the win, Daemen improves to 5-11 on the season while the Saxons dropped to 7-4 on the year.

"This was a highly competitive match from the outset," said head coach Stephen Beatty.  

Daemen started off strong with two doubles wins then eventually took a 3-1 lead with a win from John LeMar (North Tonawanda, N.Y./North Tonawanda) at No. 3 singles. Alfred was able to tie the match with wins in No. 1 and No. 4 singles.

Daemen went back up 4-3 with a win from Gregory Lowe (East Aurora, N.Y./East Aurora) at No. 2 singles but Alfred would not go away and was able to win a tight match at No.5 singles.  After losing a match point at 6-5 in the second set, and being down an early break in the third John Wilson (Seneca Falls, N.Y./Mynderse) was able to pull the match out for Daemen in the No. 6 singles slot.

Daemen will be back in action this Friday (Apr. 4) as they travel to Rochester to to take on the Cardinals of St. John Fisher at 4:00 p.m.
