FULL RESULTSROCHESTER, N.Y. - The Daemen College women's track and field team put together a solid outing today beneath sunny skies and warm temperatures at the ROC City Invitational hosted by Nazareth College today. The 17-team event went unscored, but Daemen head coach
Jessica Gorski was happy with her team's performance nonetheless.
Senior
Kathryn Gross (Amherst, N.Y./Amherst) had the standout performance of the meet for the Wildcats as the 5-foot-2 sprinter won the 100 meter dash with a time of 13.21 seconds. She would add an eighth-place finish in the 200 meter dash as well (27.33 seconds).
Moving to the middle distance races,
Brittany Denton (Oakfield, N.Y./Oakfield-Alabama) continued her strong freshman season with a third-place showing in the 800 meter run, finishing in 2:26.60 - 10 seconds off the pace set by race-winner Michaela Gildemeyer of the host Golden Flyers.
The Wildcats got additional top-15 performances on the track from
Brooke Nolan (Depew, N.Y./Depew),
Ashley Krol (Depew, N.Y./Depew) and
Mackenzie Donahue (East Aurora, N.Y./East Aurora). Nolan took 11th in the 400 meter dash (1:03.26) while Krol finished 12th in the 100 meter dash (13.78 seconds). Donahue finished 15th in the 1500 meter run (5:05.22).
In field events, it was once again freshman thrower
Toria Williams (Buffalo, N.Y./Medaille College) leading the way for the Wildcats. Williams took third in the shot put with a long toss of 11.79 meters. Nine competitors reached the 10-meter mark, but only Williams, Valerie Vancol of Cortland State and event-winner Paige Willson of St. John Fisher College managed to top 11-meters.
Daemen returns to action next Saturday (April 19) when they compete in the East Coast Conference Outdoor Track and Field Championships in Lakewood, N.J.
