LAKEWOOD, N.J. - The Daemen College women's track and field team set numerous school and personal records while finishing in fifth place in the team standings at the East Coast Conference Outdoor Track and Field Championships held today at the Track and Field Complex on the campus of Georgian Court University.  Daemen, which is in its fourth year as an intercollegiate program and second year as a member of the ECC, accumulated 51 points, an increase of 325-percent from last season when the team managed just 12 points at the meet.

The Wildcats were led by freshman thrower Toria Williams (Buffalo, N.Y./Medaille College).  Williams became the first Daemen athlete to win an individual conference championship, doing so in the shot put with a toss of 11.10 meters in the finals.  Her dominance in the event included a throw of 12.21 meters in the preliminary round, a performance which was only outdone by Brittany Sepe of Molloy College (12.30 meters) who ended up finishing in third place.

Williams would add a sixth-place finish in the discus throw with a personal-best toss of 28.58 meters.

Daemen's solid outing in throwing events also included senior Ashley Pinette (Rowley, Mass./Westfield State University) and sophomore Mariah Burkhard (Churchville, N.Y./Churchville-Chili).  Pinette had a trifecta of top-five finishes, earning third place in the hammer throw, fourth place in the discus throw 32.71 meters) and fifth place in the shot put (10.21 meters).  Her toss of 39.45 meters in the hammer throw was good for both school and personal records.  Burkhard, meanwhile, set personal-bests in the shot put (9.90 meters), hammer throw (29.38 meters) and javelin (25.18 meters).  She ended up fourth in the javelin for her highest finish of day.

Also in field events, freshman Callie O'Connor (Alden, N.Y./Alden) set a personal-best by clearing 2.90 meters in the pole vault competition.  That performance was good enough for a third-place finish by the rookie.

On the track, senior Kathryn Gross (Amherst, N.Y./Amherst) continued her solid spring by placing fifth in the 100 meter dash.  Her personal-best time of 13.06 seconds in the event's finals set a new school record as well.  She later added an 11th-place finish in the 200 meter dash (27.35 seconds).

The trio of Brittany Denton (Oakfield, N.Y./Oakfield-Alabama), Brooke Nolan (Depew, N.Y./Depew) and Noelle Thompson (Vestal, N.Y./Vestal) all cracked the top 10 in the 800 meter run.  Denton (2:23.22) took fourth, Nolan (2:26.35) was right behind in sixth and Thompson (2:30.86) came in ninth.  All three set personal-bests while Denton's time broke the school record.

Freshman Mackenzie Donahue (East Aurora, N.Y./East Aurora) garnered the last top-five finish for the Wildcats.  Hers came in the 5000 meter run where she finished in third place after a personal-best time of 18:52.04.

Additional personal-bests were set by Stephanie Czaja (North Tonawanda, N.Y./North Tonawanda), Leah May (Palmyra, N.Y./Palmyra-Macedon), Ashley Cheff (Niagara Falls, N.Y./Niagara Falls), Jennifer Igoe (Oakfield, N.Y./Oakfield-Alabama) and Katherine Robinson (Pasadena, Calif./Pasadena).  Czaja set personal records in the 400 meter hurdles (1:19.44) - which is also a new school record - and the 400 meter dash (1:09.00).  May's personal-best time of 1:05.08 also came in the 400 meter dash while the trio of Cheff (5:12.34), Igoe (5:44.23) and Robinson (5:23.38) set their marks in the 1500 meter run.

Roberts Wesleyan College racked up 214 points to sit atop the team standings, winning the conference title in the process.

Daemen will close out its 2013-14 season next weekend at the Golden Eagle Run hosted by The College at Brockport.
