BROCKPORT, N.Y. - Senior sprinter Kathryn Gross (Amherst, N.Y./Amherst), competing in the final outdoor meet of her career, came through with a pair of top-two finishes today to lead the Daemen College women's track and field team at the Brockport Golden Eagle Run held at Schriver Stadium as the Wildcats completed their 2013-14 season.

Gross took home top honors by winning the 200 meter dash with a time of 27.57 seconds, besting runner-up Therez Young of the host Golden Eagles by .22 seconds.  She also was the runner-up in the 100 meter dash, running that race in 12.96 seconds - the first sub-13-second 100 meter dash in school history - setting new personal and school records.  Her performance marked the second straight week that Gross has set new personal and school benchmarks for the 100 meter dash, doing so at last weekend's East Coast Conference Outdoor Track and Field Championships where she earned a fifth-place finish with a time of 13.06 seconds.

Daemen also got strong contributions on the track from senior Stephanie Czaja (North Tonawanda, N.Y./North Tonawanda), sophomore Brooke Nolan (Depew, N.Y./Depew) and freshmen Leah May (Palmyra, N.Y./Palmyra-Macedon), Brittany Denton (Oakfield, N.Y./Oakfield-Alabama) and Mackenzie Donahue (East Aurora, N.Y./East Aurora).

Like Gross, Czaja set new personal and school records for the second straight week.  She finished in fifth place in the 400 meter hurdles, running the race in record time of 1:19.15.

Nolan garnered a pair of top-eight finishes - one at sprinting length and the other at her customary mid-distance length.  She finished fourth in the 400 meter dash (1:04.03) and added an eighth-place performance in the 800 meter run (2:30.07).  She was only bested amongst her teammates in the 800 meters by Denton who closed out her fine rookie campaign with a race of 2:27.93 which landed her in sixth place.

May was also a double-event participant, walking away with a pair of top-seven finishes.  Her 28.82-second showing in the 100 meter dash was good for seventh place while she also finished in sixth in the 400 meter dash (1:05.36).

Joining classmates Denton and May, Donahue finished in 11th place in the 1500 meter run (5:07.56), a distance she had only competed in once this year leading up to today's meet.

An additional top-10 finish on the track came from junior Noelle Thompson (Vestal, N.Y./Vestal) who did so in the 800 meter run, giving the Wildcats three of the event's top 10 finishers.

In field events, it was freshman Ashley Krol (Depew, N.Y./Depew) leading the way as she set new personal and school records with a leap of 4.82 meters in the long jump which earned her third place honors.

The Wildcats were strong in the throwing events, as well, which has become the norm for head coach Jessica Gorski's squad.  Freshman Toria Williams (Buffalo, N.Y./Medaille College), fresh off her conference championship in the shot put, took fifth place in today's event.  Her throw of 10.77 meters placed her in the middle of 10 athletes who had throws exceeding 10 meters.  Senior Ashley Pinette (Rowley, Mass./Westfield State University) was just outside that grouping, finishing in 11th place with a long toss of 9.89 meters.  She also placed seventh in the discus (29.67 meters), 11th in the javelin (20.26 meters) and 13th in the hammer throw (33.05 meters).

Rounding out the trio of usual suspects for the Wildcats was sophomore Mariah Burkhard (Churchville, N.Y./Churchville-Chili) who, like Pinette, competed in all four throwing events.  Her best finish came in the javelin where she placed eighth after launching it some 23.79 meters.
