BOX SCOREWILLIAMSVILLE, N.Y. - The Daemen College men's tennis team hosted their first match of the season today, winning 6-3 to the visiting SUNY-Oswego Lakers of NCAA Division III and the Eastern College Athletic Conference at the Park Country Club Courts. The Wildcats now lead 2-1 in the series with Oswego as they dropped a 5-4 match in the team's first season of existence but defeated the Lakers 6-3 last season.

"I am really happy with how we have practiced up until today's match," head coach
Stephen Beatty said. "We played really well and I am looking forward to seeing how good this team can get this year."

Daemen took all three doubles matches and three out of six in singles competition, led by juniorÂ
Gregory Lowe (East Aurora, N.Y./East Aurora) in the No. 2 singles slot and freshmanÂ
Mark Veitengruber (Rockford, Mich. / Rockford) in the No. 3 singles spot. Lowe downed Oswego's Kyle Zeller 6-1, 6-0 while Veitengruber defeated Justin D'Antonio 6-1, 6-0 as well.
Veitengruber also partnered with junior
Joey Gentile (East Amherst, N.Y. / Niagara University) to defeat Alex McCarthy and Brian Lyudmer 8-3.Â
Sophomore
John LeMar (North Tonawanda, N.Y. / North Tonawanda)Â was a double-point winner for Daemen as well. LeMar defeated Lyudmer 6-1, 6-0 at No. 4 singles after teaming with
Adam Kerr (Penfield, N.Y. / McQuaid Jesuit) for an 8-4 win at No. 2 doubles.
Additionally, the Wildcats got a win from freshman Roberto Zambrano (Guayaquil, Ecuador / Broward College) and John Wilson (Seneca Falls, N.Y. / Mynderse Acad.)Â in No. 3 doubles as they defeated Jon Matros and Dillon Spall 8-4.
The Wildcats are back in action tomorrow (Sept. 15) when they travel to Alfred, N.Y. for a 4 p.m. match against the Alfred University Saxons.
