Women's Tennis Downs Fredonia

WILLIAMSVILLE, N.Y. – The Daemen College women's tennis team secured their third win of the season with a 7-2 decision over SUNY Fredonia State this evening in a non-conference matchup. With the win, the Wildcats improve to 3-5 (1-4 ECC) on the season while the Blue Devils dropped to 2-3 with the loss.

Avenging their 1-8 loss from last year, the Wildcats swept the three doubles matches and went nearly unbeaten in singles play, as well.

"We played the best in doubles we have all year today," head coach Stephen Beatty said, " I'm very happy with the way the team is progressing."

Daemen sophomore Hayle Scanlan (Indianapolis, Ind./Perry Meridian) led the way by defeating Fredonia's Stephanie Thompson 6-2, 6-3 in the No. 1 singles slot.  Scanlan then teamed up with Celina Wozniak (Tonawanda, N.Y./Kenmore East) to beat Thompson and Samantha Pedneault in No. 1 doubles 8-1.

Sarah Crissy (Tonawanda, N.Y./Kenmore East) and Aman Shamaa (Clarence, N.Y./Clarence) overcame Halee Dickinson and Chloe Cohen in No. 2 doubles 8-3. Crissy also took down her opponent in No. 5 singles play defeating Dickinson 6-0, 6-0.

Gretchen Ringler (North Tonawanda, N.Y./North Tonawanda) a long with Tianna Washington (North Chili, N.Y. /Churchville Chili) triumphed over the Blue Devils' Jenna Fiacco and Emily Fulkerson in No. 3 doubless 8-3. In addition to doubles play, Ringler picked up a 6-1, 6-0 win against Fulkerson in the No. 2 singles slot while Washington beat her opponent 6-2, 6-2 at No. 6 singles.

Daemen will seek out its next victory when they host Keuka College this Sunday (Sept. 21) for a 1 p.m. at the Park Country Club.
