SYRACUSE, N.Y. - The Daemen College women's cross country team had a strong showing in their first outing of the season today, finishing as the runner-up in the team standings at the Le Moyne College Alumni Short Course Invitational.  The Wildcats, under the direction of third-year head coach Jessica Gorski, finished with 44 points and were out-paced by only Roberts Wesleyan College who took top team honors with just 33 points today.

The duo of Hannah Rice (East Aurora, N.Y./East Aurora) and Mackenzie Donahue (East Aurora, N.Y./East Aurora), which proved so pivotal in Daemen's ascent to the upper-echelon of the East Coast Conference last season, was on point again today as the sophomores finished fifth and sixth, respectively, in the short 4K race.  Rice completed the course in 15:11.01 while Donahue was hot on her heels to finish in 15:11.97.  It was just another race day for Donahue who has now finished in the top 10 of all seven races in her young career.

A third top-10 finish for the Wildcats came from junior Brooke Nolan (Depew, N.Y./Depew) who wound up in 10th place with a time of 15:50.04.  It was the first top-10 finish in the career of Nolan whose previous career-best, in terms of placement, came when she finished 12th at the Wells College Invitational on Oct. 20, 2012 during her freshman campaign.

Not to be outshined, freshman Amy Trabert (Amherst, N.Y./Amherst) came in just behind Nolan in 11th place.  She completed her first collegiate race in 15:50.46 while classmate Wendy Neville (Elma, N.Y./Iroquois Central) rounded out the scorers for Daemen with her 18th place finish (16:27.22).

Le Moyne grabbed the top two spots in the race as Rachel Strong was just that, coming in well ahead of anyone to win the race in 13:42.14.  Her teammate Jeanette Cudney was second-best with her time of 15:00.53.

Roberts Wesleyan placed four runners in the top eight and had all five of its scorers finish 12th or better to capture the team title.

Daemen gets back to racing next Saturday, Sept. 13 at the Penn State-Behrend Invitational in Erie, Pa.
