HAMILTON, N.Y. - Standout thrower
Toria Williams (Buffalo, N.Y./Medaille College) accounted for 16 points to lead the Daemen College women's indoor track and field team to a fifth-place finish in the team standings at the Colgate University Class of '32 Invitational today at Sanford Field House. As a team, Daemen accumulated 66 points to edge out fifth-place finisher SUNY Delhi. The host Colgate Raiders topped the standings with 129 points.
Williams won the shot put event with a long toss of 11.78 meters. That finish earned 10 points for the Wildcats as she was one of just two competitors to launch the shot put more than 11 meters. She added six more points for her third-place finish in the 20-pound weight throw, tossing that object 13.06 meters.
Also performing well in field events was sophomore
Ashley Krol (Depew, N.Y./Depew). Krol finished as the runner-up in the triple jump after going 9.93 meters. That finish earned Daemen another eight points.
On the track, it was freshman
Kailyn Szymanski (Lockport, N.Y./Lockport) who continued her fine rookie campaign by earning 14 points over two events. She first finished as the runner-up in the 200-meter dash with a time of 27.79 seconds which earned eight points. She added a third-place finish and six points in 400-meter dash with a time of 1:00.69.
The Wildcats got a pair of third-place finishes from the sophomore-duo of
Hannah Rice (East Aurora, N.Y./East Aurora) and
Mackenzie Donahue (East Aurora, N.Y./East Aurora). Rice's six-point performance came in the 800-meter run with a time of 2:21.78 while Donahue's came in the 1-mile run with a time of 5:27.43.
Daemen closes out its 2014-15 indoor season at next week's East Coast Conference Indoor Track and Field Championship. The event is set to run Feb. 21 at St. Anthony's High School in Huntington, N.Y.
