BOX SCORETAMPA, Fla. - The Daemen College women's tennis team is still searching for its first win during this week's trip to the Sunshine State as the Wildcats dropped an 8-1 decision to Washington College today at the University of Tampa Tennis Complex. With the loss, Daemen falls to 8-14 overall this season while the Shorewomen, of NCAA Division III and the Centennial Conference, improve to 2-0.
WC swept through doubles play, dropping just four games in the process, establishing a solid 3-0 lead heading into singles play.
Sophomore
Hayle Scanlan (Indianapolis, Ind./Perry Meridian) was the lone Wildcat to breakthrough, winning her No. 2 singles match over WC's Marielle McIntyre. It was a three-set gutsy effort from Scanlan who won 6-4, 0-6, 1-0. Scanlan is now 9-12 in singles matches this season.
WC's Julie Lazer won at No. 3 singles (6-1, 6-1) over Daemen freshman
Gretchen Ringler (North Tonawanda, N.Y./North Tonawanda). It was Ringler's first singles loss of the spring season after rattling off six-straight wins dating back to last month. Ringler leads the Wildcats with 11 singles victory overall this season.
