Box Score SPARKILL, N.Y. — The Daemen women's tennis team won two singles matches, but dropped a 5-2 decision in an ECC match at St. Thomas Aquinas on Saturday.
Starting with doubles action, the Spartans were victorious at the No. 1 slot as the Wildcats' pair of Marley Conover (San Luis Obispo, Calif.) and Bella Bjerkan (Elmhurst, Ill.) fell 6-0 to Kateryna Kryuchkova and Sun Zhuoxuan. Daemen's No. 2 team of Carly Armitage (Rochester, N.Y.) and Ashley Bonilla (Flushing, N.Y.) dropped a 6-1 decision to Mar Caneves Bufi and Shreethika Vangala. At No. 3 doubles, Lily Goodemote (Sauquoit, N.Y.) and Dania Mehani (Amherst, N.Y.) did not play their contest against Chanelle Russell and Monica Martinez Blucher.
Queens then won three of the five singles matches to take the match victory. Daemen earned wins at No. 5 and No. 6 singles. Goodemote picked up a 6-2, 6-1 victory at No. 5 over Martinez Blucher. Nadja Emmendorfer (Clarence, N.Y.) defeated Russell 6-1, 6-1 at the No. 6 slot. At No. 1 singles, Conover fell to Kryuchkova, 6-3, 6-0. Armitage was defeated by Caneves at No. 2, 6-1, 6-0. Bjerkan fell in a tight decision to Zhuoxuan at No. 3 by a 6-4, 6-3 score. Bonilla dropped a 6-0, 6-1 decision to Martinez Blucher at the No. 4 slot.
