OLD WESTBURY, N.Y. - The Daemen College men's tennis team closed out its East Coast Conference schedule with a 9-0 loss to regional power New York Institute of Technology here today.
Daemen dropped to 6-15 overall and 1-5 in the ECC. NYIT, which is ranked second in the East Region and 13th nationally among NCAA Division II schools, improved to 11-7 overall and closed out its league slate with a perfect 6-0 record.
Senior Julio Pulido posted a 6-2, 6-0 victory over junior Joey Gentile (East Amherst, N.Y./Niagara University) at. No. 1 singles for the host Bears, and sophomore Matej Selecky secured a 6-3, 6-2 win over junior Gregory Lowe (East Aurora, N.Y./East Aurora) at No. 2 singles.
Pulido teamed up with classmate Tomas Lieb to post an 8-0 win over Gentile and freshman Mark Veitengruber (Rockford, Mich./Rockford) at No. 1 doubles, while Selecky and Rafel Charkiewicz earned an 8-1 victory over sophomore John LeMar (North Tonawanda, N.Y./North Tonawanda) and classmate Adam Kerr (Penfield, N.Y./McQuiad Jesuit) at No. 2 doubles.
Daemen returns to action tomorrow (Apr. 19) when it plays a non-league match at Bloomsburg University.
