ROCHESTER, N.Y. - The Daemen College men's cross country team saw its five scorers place between 62nd and 86th individually today to finish in 13th place in the team standings (out of 22 competiting teams) at the University of Rochester Yellowjacket Invitational held at Genesee Valley Park near the convergence of Red Creek, the Genesee River and the New York State Barge Canal.
Daemen accumulated 382 points in the 8K race, edged by Alfred University (380 points) for 12th place. Â Ohio Northern University was the top-performing team today, amassing a meet-low 46 points with all five its scorers finishing 13th or better. Â ONU held a comfortable lead ahead of second-place Oberlin College (74 points) and third-place Colgate University (132 points).
It was Oberlin's Geno Arthur who set the pace, winning the race with a time of 25:46.3, the only sub-26-minute time of the day. Â ONU's Cully Gordon (26:10.4) finished as the runner-up.
Leading the way for Daemen today was senior
Jeremy Rushok (Akron, N.Y./Buffalo State College). Â Rushok, who has now been the Wildcats' top finisher in their last six races, and seven of their last eight dating back to the start of the 2014 season, finished 62nd today with a time of 28:09.2.
Rushok was backed up today by sophomore
Kevin Roginson (Amherst, N.Y./Williamsville North) and freshman
Lucas Canales (Ithaca, N.Y./Ithaca). Â Roginson finished in 70th place with a time of 28:39.3 while Canales came in 79th place with his time of 29:05.7.
Rounding out Daemen's scorers today was sophomore
David DelValle (West Seneca, N.Y./West Seneca West) and freshman
Jake Pronti (Pendleton, N.Y./Starpoint) who finished 85th and 86th with times of 29:39.9 and 29:48.4, respectively.
Daemen will return to Rochester next Saturday, September 26 for the Harry F. Anderson Invitational hosted by Roberts Wesleyan College.
