Women's Cross Country Returns To Racing At Yellowjacket Invitational

ROCHESTER, N.Y. - The Daemen College women's cross country team returned to racing after a 13-day hiatus from competition, finishing in 11th place out of 20 teams at the University of Rochester Yellowjacket Invitational held at Genesee Valley Park.

Daemen accumulated 300 points in the team standings with its top five scorers finishing between 15th and 92nd overall in the 6K race.  NCAA Division I program Cornell University was the unquestioned winner, amassing a meet-low 18 points by having its five scorers all finish in the top six.  Cornell was paced by race-winner Taylor Spillane who completed the course in 21:32.5 to edge her teammate, Caroline Kellner (21:55.3), by more than 20 seconds.

The host Rochester Yellowjackets (87 points) edged their cross-town rivals from Rochester Institute of Technologu (89 points) to finish in second place in the team standings.

The Wildcats were paced today by junior Mackenzie Donahue (East Aurora, N.Y./East Aurora) who finished 15th with a time of 23:09.4.  After Donahue, it was classmate Hannah Rice (East Aurora, N.Y./East Aurora) coming in 38th with a time of 24:11.2.

Daemen's scorers today were rounded out by sophomore Amy Trabert (Amherst, N.Y./Amherst), junior Brittany Denton (Oakfield, N.Y./Oakfield-Alabama) and sophomore Katherine Robinson (Pasadena, Calif./Pasadena).  Trabert (24:54.7) finished 69th; Denton (25:44.7) came in 86th; and, Robinson (26:15.6) crossed the finish line in 92nd.

The results today marked the fourth-straight race that Donahue, Rice and Trabert have constituted the Wildcats' top three finishers, in one order or another.

It was also a milestone day for Robinson who recorded her career-best time for a 6K race.  Her previous career-best at that distance was 27:05.3 ran in last season's Inter-Regional Rumble (October 18, 2014) hosted by Oberlin College.  It also marked the second time in Robinson's career that she's placed among Daemen's scorers, and the first time since her collegiate debut on September 14, 2013 at the Talon Invitational hosted by Roberts Wesleyan College.

Daemen will return to Rochester next Saturday, September 26 for the Harry F. Anderson Invitational hosted by Roberts Wesleyan.
