ROCHESTER, N.Y. - The Daemen College men's cross country team accumulated 379 points to finish in 14th place out of 24 competing teams at the Harry F. Anderson Invitational hosted by Roberts Wesleyan College on its campus today.
NCAA Division I Cornell University (25 points) was the class of the field, placing its five scorers among the top-six finishers to capture team honors today. Â The host RWC Redhawks (55 points) finished in second while SUNY Fredonia (121 points) was a distant third.
Cornell's Zack Israel paced the field of 237 competitors, finishing the 8K course in 25:16.6, edging teammate Sam Baxter (25:27.9) for the race victory.
Daemen was paced again today by senior
Jeremy Rushok (Akron, N.Y./Buffalo State College) who finished 43rd with a time of 27:02.5. Â Rushok has now been the Wildcats' top finisher in seven consecutive races, and eight of their last nine dating back to the start of the 2014 season.
Sophomore
Kevin Roginson (Amherst, N.Y./Williamsville North) came in next for Daemen, finishing 60th with his time of 27:44.3. After Roginson, it was freshman
Jake Pronti (Pendleton, N.Y./Starpoint) who cracked into Daemen's top-three finishers for the first time in his career. Â Pronti finished 89th overall with a time of 28:33.3.
Rounding out Daemen's scorers today was freshman
Lucas Canales (Ithaca, N.Y./Ithaca) and sophomore
David DelValle (West Seneca, N.Y./West Seneca West). Â Canales (28:33.7) and DelValle (28:41.4) finished 91st and 96th, respectively. Â They've now both been among the Daemen scorers in all three meets this season.
Daemen returns to racing next Saturday, October 3 at the Mike Woods Invitational hosted by SUNY Geneseo at Letchworth State Park.
